New Discovery near the Troll Field – A Key Piece of SimWorx’s History

News just broke about a new oil and gas discovery near the Troll Field — one of the most prolific reservoirs in the North Sea, originally discovered by Norske Shell in 1979.

For SimWorx, Troll has a special place in our history. When we first started working on near-wellbore flow simulations, the validation cases we used to check numerical accuracy came from Troll. At that time, SimWorx had developed IP3D, a FEM-based near-wellbore simulator, for Petrobras — which we used extensively for these validation studies. See Troll field data below:

IP3D Solution:

After a hiatus, we came back stronger — developing WellWorx, our own near-wellbore and well–reservoir coupled simulator, featuring:
🔧 Advanced FEM-based formulation for accurate near-wellbore flow representation
⚙️ Integration with Intel Pardiso for scalable, high-performance simulations
🖥 A robust, intuitive UI that enables engineers to set up and run cases in minutes

Today, SimWorx maintains a prolific relationship with Norway-based companies, proudly providing simulation solutions for Equinor, supporting Fishbones AS in the development of new stimulation technologies, and participating in an R&D project funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN).

What started as validation exercises on Troll data became the foundation for what we deliver today: cutting-edge near-wellbore flow simulation technology used to design acid jetting treatments, stimulation jobs, and production optimization workflows.

Great to see Troll still making headlines — and still inspiring us to innovate! #OilandGas #ReservoirEngineering #Simulation #NumericalModeling #NearWellboreFlow #FEM #Innovation #SimWorx #Equinor #Fishbones #RCN #WellWorx
