The first installment from FINEP – Innovation and Research – is now official. The MapDano project was submitted last year (2013) and then accepted at the beginning of this year and just recently implemented. The MapDano goal is to use available information from intelligent well systems as input data for numerical simulations which will augment decision making regarding well operations. FINEP is a public company that has the mission to promote Brazilian social and economic development by means of government support to science, technology and innovation.
SimWorx is a high value added player on petroleum industry providing its clients integrated and innovative solutions for numerical simulations, optimization techniques, and computational performance optimization, among others. The project MapDano includes a simulator which is capable to identify the damage intensity along the well, based on intelligent completion systems data, namely the temperature profile along the well. The simulator then maps the damage distribution along the well.
Mature wells with low productivity are revitalized through an acid attack. The correct mapping of least productive zones along the well allows for an optimized acid treatment, making viable an operation with a reduced NPT (non-productive time), factor that strongly impacts the economics of the operation.
