The matrix acidizing simulator 2.0 version was recently released. The simulator, called Matrix, was developed exclusively for Petrobras under CENPES (Petrobras Research Center) team coordination. Finished a few months ago, the project was developed in a two year contract, having the 1.0 version been released at the end of 2012.
Among many uncertainties regarding what occurs in a well stimulation process, with the coupling of hydraulic and chemical phenomena, the use of an acidizing simulator not only provides a support on how to proceed the operation, but also on the understanding of the operation in itself. The inexistence of a commercial simulator able to meet Petrobras demands motivated the project development. Its design addresses topics regarding data manipulation, visualization (pre and post processing) and project definitions, among others.
The Matrix main purpose is to simulate damage removal and, consequently, the prediction of the increased local permeability around the well bore, through the producer formation porous matrix acidizing. With Brazil’s pre-salts new challenges, the software is already being used by our client as an assistant tool in their project stages and also during their operations. The simulator has also been used in retro analyses studies, through post operation data.
